Focusing on Green Chemistry & New Materials: BRICI Delegation Visits STME for Technical Exchange with Saudi Aramco

On December 2, a high-level delegation from SINOPEC (Beijing) Research Institute of Chemical Industry (BRICI) visited Sinopec Tech Middle East (STME) to engage in a technical exchange with experts from Saudi Aramco. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to facilitate technical collaboration, focusing on advancements in petrochemical processes, new materials, and environmental sustainability to drive high-quality development in the downstream sector.

The BRICI delegation was led by Mr. Gao Yanjie, Vice President of BRICI, and comprised key technical leadership including Mr. Gou Qingqiang, Director of the PE Research Institute; Mr. Zhang Longgui, Director of the Material Science Research Institute; Mr. Du Kai, Manager of Technology Marketing; Ms. Li Xinrong, Deputy Manager of the International Cooperation Department; and Ms. Lyu Jinglan, Deputy Manager of the IP & Law Department. To foster deep technical dialogue, STME hosted distinguished guests from Saudi Aramco, including experts from the Process & Control Systems Department (P&CSD)—Mr. Ramaseshan Vinod, Mr. Khvastunkov Mikhail S., Mr. Karri Venkata R., Mr. Kane Prasad G., and Mr. Faisal Alotabi—as well as representatives from the Research & Development Center (R&DC), Mr. Juttu Gopal and Mr. Mohammad A. Alabdullah.

During the session, BRICI presented key technical topics tailored to address current industry challenges. The discussions covered three core areas: ethylene processes, environmental technologies, and new materials R&D. In the domain of ethylene, presentations detailed advanced furnace design and optimization alongside innovations in cracking catalyst enhancement. On the environmental front, the team showcased robust solutions for wastewater treatment and strategic initiatives for waste-plastic recycling, aligning with global sustainability goals. Furthermore, discussions on new materials highlighted BRICI’s development pipelines for novel products and their advanced capabilities in material characterization and testing. Following the technical sessions, the BRICI delegation toured STME’s state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities, speaking highly of the local research capabilities.

This visit underscored STME's pivotal role as a window for technical exchange, successfully bridging Sinopec's premier research institutes with key stakeholders in the Kingdom to foster broader energy and chemical cooperation. It not only showcased Sinopec's comprehensive strength in the petrochemical field but also laid a good foundation for broader and deeper technical cooperation in the Middle East region in the future, contributing to comprehensive cooperation in technological innovation, talent development, and achievement transformation, and injecting new vitality into the strategic cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the energy sector.
